A recent NYT article, This Is Peak College Admissions Insanity, published May 1, 2024, has been grabbing attention for its discussion of the current college admission process, which has become ever more competitive in the last few years.
To provide some balance, we also want to share another NYT Op-ed piece, written by Emi Nietfeld appearing March 27th, on how the SAT helped “change her life.” This quote sums up her POV nicely:
“I was one of the disadvantaged youths who are often failed by test-optional policies, striving to get into college while in foster care and homeless…For many of us, standardized tests provided our one shot to prove our potential, despite the obstacles in our lives or the untidy pasts we had.”
Emi Nietfeld was admitted to Harvard.
