The ACT’s transition to its new format officially begins in April 2025. Here’s what we know today:
The ACT organization will roll out its new Enhanced ACT digitally first, through a limited “soft launch” in April, June and July 2025. We have observed a relatively small number of test sites offering this new digital test.
ACT has also limited practice opportunities for the new test. So far there is only one released sample test, consisting entirely of material recycled from previous tests. ACT will release more practice materials in May 2025, but only after the first administration of the new digital test. Until then we will not know how much to read into this first practice test.
With so many unknowns—including scoring adjustments, a lack of fresh practice materials, and questions surrounding the optional Science section—we strongly recommend that students stick with the paper format ACT through the summer of 2025.
Our test prep team is closely following ACT’s overhaul of its test format and will have more information to share after the inaugural Enhanced ACT in April. In the meantime, to learn more about the ACT’s structure and receive an early review of upcoming changes, look out for an invitation to our March 11th ACT webinar.
